Greetings readers! While the Northeast is snowed in, I have a story to keep you warm with excitement. At a Television Critics Association presentation, representatives from Netflix and Marvel talked about season 2 of Daredevil and what it may have in store in regards to a Defenders series. For anyone who may not know, The Defenders are a team of superheroes made of various members over the years such as Luke Cage, The Hulk, Silver Surfer and Namor. It was led at one point by Doctor Strange. We have seen Luke Cage already in Jessica Jones so it’s only logical Marvel and Netflix will develop the character from there.
When asked about how The Defenders will change the approach to season 2 of Daredevil, showrunner Doug Petrie had this to say, “It’s definitely opened doors. I think what we both got really good at–along with all of our writers and our cast is how to be collaborative. You picked the right word to describe it. Where I can’t state enough is how much Charlie [Cox], Jon [Bernthal], Elden [Henson] and Deborah [Ann Woll]–come to us with suggestions and ideas and we almost always fold them in. I think what we’ve gotten better at this year, by necessity of the storytelling, is we spin more plates and we have more threads of storyline going through the narrative and, as we look forward to what’s coming up ahead, we feel like we’ll be able to handle more storylines–complicated storylines–and interweaving different characters in new ways.”
Marco Ramirez added, “Just a note, also, we didn’t just add Frank Castle and Elektra to the world. We’re also continuing the storylines for Foggy and Karen and it’s just like a bunch of plates and it’s absolutely that. It’s an exercise in spinning plates and lighting them on fire and making them spin as quickly and awesomely as possible.” From those words alone season two may or may not spin into The Defenders but one thing’s for sure, it will build up on an exciting first season. You can re-watch or start the first season now on Netflix..
Daredevil‘s second season starts March 18 on Netflix.
