Don’t you hate when the dude you pay to raise a demon for you fails? Worse yet, he doesn’t seem to feel he failed at all? I know I do. Cormac’s customer is displeased. Meanwhile Veil is all alone.
When last we left Veil she was running away, angry at a perceived hurt. Now she’s wandering the streets. The client of Cormac’s is displeased with his seemingly failed ritual and plots his reprisal against the sorcerer/necromancer. Cormac meanwhile sits tight waiting for something or someone to show up. In this issue she does, Veil finds herself drawn to Cormac’s lair where he is pleased to make her acquaintance. Their meeting is quite explosive.
I still can’t get enough of Veil. Even this issue where very little happens and we get far more questions than answers. I am completely enthralled with this story and love watching it unfold. While we have some idea of Veil’s origin now she is still a complete enigma. Goddess of retribution? Demon raised from the depths? Innocent with an inexplicable defense mechanism? Who knows, but what a ride finding out. Rucka still has us guessing but at no point am I bored. The pacing is perfect as we watch the events play out.
Another 5 out of 5 stars for Veil. We’re a step closer to discovering who she is but I’m ok with not knowing just a little longer so I can enjoy the story for as long as I can.
