Vampirella’s Feary Tales – A Creepy Twist on Good Old Fashioned Bedtime Stories!

Take your favorite fairy tales, throw in a dash of Tales From the Crypt (with extra groan-worthy punnery), and add Vampirella, and you’ve got Vampirella’s Feary Tales series.

The short story: Vampirella, on the heels of her last adventure, is checking out her new Transyvanian castle when she discovers – and falls through – a book called Feary Tales. She’s taunted by a nemesis known only as The Storyteller, who mocks her and lets loose with some cheese-tastic puns and comments. Vampi lands, time and again, in a crazy version of a well-known fairy tale. We’ve had Bluebeard and Cinderella in Issue #1; we’ve seen her as Snow White, and as a marriage counselor of sorts to The Little Mermaid; now, she’s taking on two more Feary Tales and still trying to find out who the Storyteller is, and how to defeat her.

Nancy A. Collins continues to write the main story – Feary Tales – that frames the two tales and links the story together. I really love the way she’s writing Vampi, and have got to pick up one of her vampire novels one of these days. Vampirella and the Three Bears is a great, tongue-in-cheek take on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, written by Elaine Lee, and father-son writing powerhouse Joe and Keith Lansdale have Vampi taking on a Big Bad Wolf and a stripper pole in Red Riding Hood.

The stories are camp, pulpy, and everything classic Vampirella fans will remember enjoying about the book. Somewhere between Zacherle and Elvira (look ’em up, kids), we had Vampirella. This 45th anniversary party – the reason behind Feary Tales – is a blast, and I’m looking forward to the big reveal in issue #5.

Vampirella: Feary Tales #3 hits shelves today, so check it out. Every issue is really its own jumping on point, so add a little campy fun to your day and check it out. Here’s a sneak peek at Issue #3:
