I am a Lego guy. But more than that I am a builder. I love building, Blocks, Bricks, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, Erector Sets (yea I’m that old). So when wandering the aisles of Toy Fair I saw the K’NEX booth I had to check it out.

The first thing I noticed were “nerf”-like blasters. But they were made out of K’NEX pieces. Wait. YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN BLASTERS!! Why yes, yes you can…

The K-FORCE Build and Blast line invites kids ages 8+ to construct customized blasters, big or small, single or multi-shot, with endless possibilities — the only limit is your imagination! The introductory line includes 8 different kinds of blasters, buildable targets, and foam dart packs…

This is one of those ideas that both scare and make me dance around like a kid on Christmas. Why does it scare me? I have an eight-year-old and a four-year-old so I’m going to be knee deep in DAD Help me build a better one that hers! and DAD he keeps shooting me! But hey isn’t that part of the fun? And why wouldn’t this make you jump for joy? We get to build our own guns man! Our Own Guns! (Sorry 8 year-old me is totally freaking out!)

I haven’t much experience with K’NEX building kits, my kids received a set recently I’ll have more on that later, so I wonder about the difficulty level but once I get my hands on a kit we will see what we see.

What I can tell you is that the 2015 K-FORCE Build and Blast product line includes 6 different sets, all of which give you the ability to build customizable blasters of differing designs. Here are the ones that caught my eye,

Now these three sets don’t even scratch the surface of what K’NEX has to offer in 2015 but I hope it piqued you interest. Here are a few other things worth mentioning,

Lego isn’t the only company doing robotics…

Aligned to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) standards, K’NEX Education sets are ideal for classroom or home use, and encourage hands-on STEM learning concepts in construction, investigation, discussion and evaluation of scientific and design principles. The new K’NEX Education Robotics Building Set reinforces STEM to strengthen mechanical design and programming, linear and critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

And of course the thrill ride sets!

K’NEX Thrill Rides building sets have been a favorite among fans since the line was introduced in 1992, and appeals to builders of all ages. 2015 will see the introduction of 4 new roller coaster building sets, including the tallest coaster K’NEX has ever made, an exciting 9 hole mini golf set and the reintroduction of a fan favorite—the Big Ball Machine.

These are the sets most of us associate with K’NEX, the ones you see in the commercials. Well let me tell you they are seriously impressive in person.
