Toy Fair is like Willie Wonka’s factory, you wander the aisles seeing companies big and small, some you know some you don’t. You may not recognize Cloud B by name but if you have a child (infant to Grammar school) you know their products. Best known for the popular Twilight Turtle™ and Sleep Sheep™ the booth was over-flowing with cute little animals that project the starry night sky and produce soothing music and sounds. It’s really sweet stuff. But if you’ve read my stuff you know that I’m not necissarily a cute and fluffy kind of guy. So what brought me to the booth?
Cloud B has a new product that I really want (my kids) to have.
And we’ll get to that, but first here’s a taste of the 2015 line-up. Here’s a range of products coming out this year for children infant through 10 years of age…
Designed to teach children healthy sleep patterns. When you set Hedgehog’s timer to countdown for the wake-up time, a lullaby loop and a soft night light plays for 45 minutes to help children fall asleep. If your child wakes too early (or in the night) a motion sensor re-activates the lullaby and lights for 23 minutes at a time to remind them that it’s still too early to get up. When the wake up time is reached the little Hedgehog greets the day with a “Happy Wake-Up” tune and a bright wake-up color. The tune plays for three minutes and the morning light glows for 23 minutes, completing the switch to Daytime mode. Stay Asleep Buddies also come with a series of sleep training tips from 20 year veteran sleep coach The Sleep Lady.
Charley the Chameleon
MSRP: $34.95 – Ages: 4-6 years – Availability: Now
This guy is ultra-plush and cuddly and gives a soft glow in a rainbow of colors. Charley utilizes the soothing sounds of rain or a calming melody, he features a 23-minute sleep timer and runs on 2 AA batteries (included). A super-cuddly oversized three-foot version will also be available for $80. This is one I wish my daughter was young enough to still want!
And this is the one that pulled me right in. I thought the Cloud B rep was going to burst out laughing when I walked up and said You have a UFO? When did you guys get a UFO? Instead of laughing at me though they were gracious enough to show me around the booth and let me play with these adorable toys.
MSRP: $54.95 – Ages: 7-10 years – Availability: Now
While this was the most expensive offering Cloud B had on display it really seems like it’s worth the cost. Its combination of several different sound schemes (white noise, cosmic sounds, Symphony 51) and the projection of The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) is just too cool. And the fact that is has light up windows and motion sensor space ship sounds means it’s for play time as well as sleep time. (As well as adjustable volume controls and shut off.)
Now if all this wasn’t enough. Cloud B has decided to team-up with the Max Love Project to introduce the new Super Max the Turtle. Super Max is inspired by the courageous 7-year-old Max Wilford, an incredible little boy who has battled brain cancer for three years and is taking a stand to make a difference in the lives of all kids fighting childhood cancers. Check out the MaxLove Project story…
MaxLove Project was founded by Max’s parents Audra and Justin when Max first came home from more than three weeks in the hospital after brain surgery in August 2011. He was very afraid of the dark, even with four night lights glowing in his room! Audra brought home Cloud b’s Twilight Turtle hoping that its soothing stars projections would do the trick. Max immediately identified with the green stars as “healing” stars – a part of the fighting/healing story his parents had created focusing on green food, green drinks and green energy, all to help a SuperKid like Max really fight the bad guys (cancer). Max was thrilled by the “healing stars” and held the Turtle up to the back of his head – green stars glowing – and said “Look mommy, I’m healing.” That’s when Audra and Justin knew they had to take this remarkable act of empowerment to the next level. They decided right then and there to find a way to share these amazing toys with other SuperKids fighting cancer.
So Audra (Max’s mom) decided to reach out to Cloud B and ask if there was a way she could purchase Twilight Turtle at a discounted rate to send to children fighting cancer across the nation. Cloud B’s CEO decided instead to donate all the product Audra was requesting.
Then they went a step further you see hospitals have long held policies asking for cleanable wipeable toys for their patients so this April Cloud B is presenting a new turtle…
Super Max the Turtle!
MSRP: $19.99 – Ages: 4-6 years – Availability: April 2015
Super Max is a compact, portable and easy to clean version of the award-winning Twilight Turtle®.
The new Super Max the Turtle (featuring a sweet smile modeled on Max’s own) features the same glowing starlight projections of the original Twilight Turtle, but in a new, all plastic version that is easy to keep clean, so it’s adaptable for use in day care settings, hospitals, at home or on the go. This special compact companion eases fear of the dark for all kids as it projects blue, amber or green stars from its shell.
Super Max the Turtle has a 45-minute auto shut-off timer that ensures complete darkness during children’s deep sleep as recommended by pediatricians. Requires 3 AAA batteries (included).
In honor of Max and his stand to make a difference in the lives of all kids fighting childhood cancers, Cloud b is donating a portion of its proceeds to the MaxLove Project.
Needless to say I’m glad I stopped by the Cloud B booth at Toy Fair this year. I think they have some cool products and seem to really be doing the right thing as a company as well.
