If you have ready any of my reviews or articles, you know I love reboots, alternate universes, time travel shenanigans and so on. So when I saw this I literally freaked out. you see, when I was a young be-spectacled Bob, just bobbing around in a con, I came across a set of  over-sized lithographs in a large card stock envelope. It had the all too familiar Star Wars logo emblazoned above the sentence ” Original Concept Art from the movie by Ralph MacQuarrie ” I spent $10 bucks on it and quickly shoved it in my school bag like it was gold.

I was like 11, I had no idea of story boards, concept art, b-rolls or anything like that. So I was shocked to the core when I saw, Mr. MacQuarrie’s awesome designs for the world of Star Wars, everything was different, but kinda the same. A little – darker, a little more scifi-y.  It blew my little mind.

Vader looked different, Storm Troopers had light sabers, Luke was wearing a mask and Han had a beard. I wont even mention R2D2 and C3-PO. Those images always stayed with me, and were further burned in upon my finding out about the history of Star Wars; how it was originally one story , then broken up into nine chapters (so that’s why it started with episode IV!!!!). What I wouldn’t give to know what the original story was like?!

So now JW Rinzler, Lucas’ right hand man when it comes to editing licensed books, as well as a Star Wars author himself, is teaming up with the radically realistic action artist Mike Mayhew ( Zorro, Vampirella, too many cool covers to name ) to make my, and many others nerds dreams come true, by presenting to us Lucas’ original ideas, designs and storylines in this eight issue mini series from Dark Horse.

I was going to talk about the changes made, who is new the star, who replaces who, and why this person looks like that and so on. But that’s the whole damn point of this book, so check out these preview pages to get a taste. And of course… may the force be with you!

About Author

Trained by the Four-Color wizard, Hagan, in all things comic-booky, young Robert took to the streets of New York, dragging his large bespectacled head from comic shop to comic shop, absorbing, learning… knowing…. Until a very delayed pubescent spurt in his early thirties when the tumescent lump of comic knowledge burst forth, rupturing into nonsensical rants about Jack Kirby, superhero related tattoos, questionable cosplay activities, worshiping Jim Starlin as a prophet, and courting the young lady working in his local comic shop. Now he is just mad…roaming the streets late at night while walking his dog, plotting and preparing to unleash more comic-booky goodness on an unsuspecting world. He likes bread. The food. He thinks the band is crap. *Hey wanna freak Bob out? Come follow him on twitter (@dyrewolf1218), he's totally new to it and suspects it may be black magic...* - Chuck the editor monkey
