The Hub’s Playdate Premiere Party! My Little Pony; Friendship is Magic! The Littlest Pet Shop!

This morning (Saturday November 10th) at the Gramercy Theatre in NYC, The Hub held a premiere for two of their shows.

The Hub's Playdate Premiere Party! My Little Pony; Friendship is Magic! The Littlest Pet Shop!

The smash hit cult favorite “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic”

And the new series starring those ubiquitous little toys,

“The Littlest Pet Shop”!

The Hub really pulled out all the stops, the entire theater was decorated with pictures and standees of the ponys and littlest pets everywhere you looked. We were giving out popcorn, juice boxes, jelly beans, bottles of water, as well as coffee, donuts, muffins and scones catered by Great Performances, who not only put out a wonderful spread but all the employees were pleasant and spot on. The theater was staffed by a ton of Hub employees all happy to welcome us and help with any questions we had. There was face painting, a beanbag toss, balloon animals, the kids even got to color in the worlds largest coloring book (certified by Guinness World Records® official adjudicator Freddie Hoff). Time Out New York was there with a photo area and to top it all off The Hub gave every child a swag bag with Littlest Pet Shop and My Little Pony toys. Actress Melissa Joan Hart (“Melissa and Joey,” “Sabrina, The Teenage Witch”) was our hostess/mc and even she seemed a little blown away by everything The Hub had put together.

As you read this you’re probably thinking hmph nice media event, lucky you. But you may be surprised to learn that along with the press and usual media types that get to go to these things more than half the theater was filled with people from some of the areas in New York worst hit by superstorm Sandy. Moms, Dads, and Kids were bused in from from the storm-impacted communities of Belle Harbor, Breezy Point and Coney Island, to take part in this wonderful event.

But enough about the event, what about the shows!

Well they opened with the first episode of The Littlest Pet Shop. This half hour show centers on Blythe a very cool and thoughtful young girl with a penchant for music and fashion. She and her father have just made the move into a big city apartment above the Littlest Pet Shop a day camp for pets of all kinds including a panda, gecko, and even a mongoose. But the adventure truly begins for Blythe when she discovers she can talk with the animals! Can she help them save their beloved Pet Shop? I was really impressed by this show. It has heart and the characters, except for the “mean girls”, are devoid of the usual too snarky attitudes. The animals have huge personalities and the jokes and musical numbers are sure to entertain!

Everyone really seemed to enjoy the Littlest Pet Shop premiere and then what they had all been waiting for…

My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic! Now if you follow pop culture at all you know that My Little Pony is huge. I’m not going to lie, it’s really cute but I don’t get the head over heels attraction. The story seems a little deep for the audience it’s aimed at and some of the characters have attitudes I wouldn’t want my daughter (who’s 6) emulating. But all that aside it was an exciting episode. The season three (2 part) opener has Twilight Sparkle and her friends protecting “Northern Equestria’s Crystal Empire” which has reappeared after being afflicted with a curse that made it vanish for 1,000 years. Princess Celestia asks the ponies to find a way to keep the empire from disappearing again.

Below you can find my pictures from this highly entertaining event…
