2016 is shaping up to be a big year for the DCEU as the Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice anticipation is building up to a fever pitch. It does not stop there though as Suicide Squad will be right behind it this summer. We’ve already seen the highly anticipated first trailer during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con and Empire magazine recently did a run of special edition covers for its subscribers. There will be a new trailer will air this Tuesday night on the CW during the DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League (9:30-10:00pm ET/PT check your local listings). In addition, individual character posters were released across the internet and cast and crew’s social media pages. The specific details of each character as they will be developed in the movie is unclear at the moment, so the information provided is based on their comic book appearances.
Captain Boomerang will be played by Jai Courtney of Jack Reacher fame. George ‘Digger” Harkness began as part of the Rogues alongside Gorilla Grodd trying to defeat The Flash. He misses his father and the ricochet of the bullet kills his brother instead. He loses his will to live and focuses on honing his accuracy skills which is when he joins the Suicide Squad.
Diablo will be played by Jay Hernandez of World Trade Center and Nashville fame. Chato Santana is an ex-criminal with pyrokinetic abilties.
Enchantress will be played by Cara Delevingne. “June is an adventure seeker who’s always wanted some excitement,” she told Empire.”And she gets what she wished for, but in a terrible way. Jared Leto of American Psycho and Dallas Buyers Club fame will play The Joker. The Joker is perhaps the most famous DC and Batman villain yet has no solid backstory. The most common one is he was once a member of the Red Hood gang who falls into a vat of chemicals as he is being pursued by Batman, disfiguring him. You can follow Jared on Instagram and Twitter.
The look of the posters is excellent. They are wacky, haunting and all over the place, like the team members themselves. They are also different, using the skulls to represent the characters and not regular photos. This movie is going to be a hit and one I will be waiting on line to get tickets for. Once again, you can catch the new trailer during the CW’s special Dawn of the Justice League airing Tuesday at 9:30-10:00pm ET/PT. Check your local listings.
