We’re getting a new movie, Star Trek Beyond, we have two ongoing comic book series by IDW, and a new series set to debut sometime in 2017. Adding on top of that a new Star Trek convention? We’re big fans of Star Trek at What’cha Reading and big supporters of ReedPOP. We’ve already planned our first major press coverage of the year to be ReedPOP’s C2E2 and New York Comic Con is a yearly pilgrimage for all of us that loves comic books, movies, and general pop-culture goodness. But to now have Star Trek: Mission New York this year is something that is certainly being added to our Captain’s Log.
Star Trek: Mission New York will take place September 2nd thru the 4th at the Jacob Javits Center and is promising to be “the ultimate destination for Star Trek fans, filled with interactive exhibits, exclusive merchandise, celebrity guests, panels, screenings and much more.”
It’s exciting for Trekkers to see Gene Roddenberry’s creation receive the respect and attention it deserves in its 50th year. As a Trekker myself, I’m very happy to see a proper Star Trek convention return to New York City. Las Vegas has been the destination of late and it’s great seeing ReedPOP bring Star Trek fan fest back to its original home.

Its creation adds to a year filled with Star Trek events and experiences celebrating the franchise’s milestone 50th anniversary. The arrival of Star Trek: Mission New York marks the return of the Star Trek fan fest to the Big Apple. The first Star Trek convention, which helped spark the fast-growing experiential fan event industry, took place January 21-23, 1972 at the Statler Hotel – now the Hotel Pennsylvania. Originally planned for 500 guests, the event became an instant blockbuster with more than 3,000 in attendance. ReedPOP, global experts at producing and curating the world’s best fan experiences, will develop a unique program that will entertain and engage thousands of Star Trek fans for a new and different stand-alone experience.
