Solestar by Siike Donnelly – A Comic for a Cause.

I recently listed What’cha Reading on a comic site directory and while looking around that site tonight I noticed a link to “Comics Cure“. Interesting title for a blog, let’s go see. What I found was an article about Siike Donnely, a brain aneurysm survivor who is on a mission. A novelist, comic book reviewer, and most recently a comic book expert, when asked what he does for a living he responds “I want to save people”.

One of the ways he’s decided to do this is by putting together a “jam” comic. If you’ve never heard the term before it’s a comic drawn, inked, and lettered by all sorts of different artists. You get the famous, the unknown, and the infamous all jamming on a story.

This jam, written by Siike (pronounced seek), is the story of Solestar a superhero who has twenty-four hours left to live. What really caught me though was this page from the book,

Siike has written a story about how a man with little time left tries to leave the world a better place. Tries to save it one last time. From the pages I read I think he can do it.

So what we’ve got is a project that will be 100 pages using 60 plus artists. In order to drum up interest in the project Siike has released an 11 page chapter you can download free of charge!

We all know publishing a comic is expensive, so how is Siike going to raise enough money to get this book into the hands of prospective fans? Why Kickstarter of course! What better way to raise funds for a project designed to help people. Click on the link and go to The Naive Project help fund Solestar.
