I’ve bought my six-year-old Scooby for a while now. Scooby, Superman Family, the occasional Strawberry Shortcake, I even grabbed the most recent My Little Pony comic (Nice Job Ms. Cook!). I have to admit Scooby-Doo and Superman Family are her favorites.
This months Scooby was of course a holiday issue, so I expected the usual Santa Clause story or the ghost of Christmas whatever, I was pleasantly surprised…
The first story “
Light Fright One Candle” joins the members of Mystery Inc. during a visit with Rabbi Mendel at the synagogue’s Chanukah party. The mystery involves a Dreidel, Olive Oil, and Antiochus, and that is all I’m saying! I must admit, I know a little about a lot of stuff but this comic explained Chanukah better than I could have.
The second story was unexpected as well, in “It’s A Wonderful Fright” a moment of fear causes Shaggy to wish he’d never heard of Mystery Inc., I bet you know what happens next! Those of you that have no idea, Frank Capra is weeping somewhere right now.
I guess the point of this quick and dirty review is the realization that Scooby-Doo is still a great all ages property even after the mediocre (at best) movies. The art is spot on, the dialogue is just how you remember it. Some of the imagery is a little scary for the younger set so use your best judgement.
