This past year has been filled with comic conventions and shows. As we are nearing the end of 2015 so are our time at the shows. The New Jersey Comic Expo, taking place at the New Jersey Convention Center, is a two-day event by the people at Mad Management. We were in attendance at the show and if you weren’t able to make it, here are a few reasons why it was such a fun show to attend and why you might like attending next year!
I. First Looks
When I learned that New Jersey based action figure/collectible company NECA would be in attendance, my excitement for New Jersey Comic Expo grew tenfold. What I didn’t expect was to see several surprises including a first look at their 2016 line called Cinemachines. We also saw the Ultimate Edition Sarah Connor which is due out this December and sat in on the panel, which could be viewed here! Also be sure to check out our time we spent at their booth here.
Cosplay is inescapable, especially at comic conventions. Amazingly, no matter the size or scale of a show, enthusiastic fans will come out and enjoy themselves as they costume play as some of their favorite characters. It was also very cool seeing three attendees cosplay as Princess Leia, Han Solo, and R2-D2. And remember kids, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is less than a month away.
III. Fun Finds
Every comic convention, from NYCC to RICC, promises something fun. You never know what to expect. As you explore more of the show, you begin to realize that there’s so much more to the comic/art/pop-culture community than the usual suspects. Case in point, Mark Mariano is a self-proclaimed “nice guy” (He is!), writes and draws comics and stories, along with making music. You could find more on him at the following links provided:
2015 was a fun year for us in covering convention after convention. We hope it was fun for all of you, as well. Because shows like San Diego and New York Comic Con have increasingly become more difficult to attend, shows like Special Edition NYC, Wizard World, and Rhode Island Comic Con have become more sought out by those that love everything these shows celebrate. New Jersey Comic Expo was a great show and for more on the event, check out what Chuck had to write on it here.
