People have been creeped out by dolls forever. It’s a thing, right? The dead glass eyes, the pasted smiles on their faces… from Talky Tina in the “Little Friend” episode of The Twilight Zone, to Chucky, to Annabelle, dolls freak people the hell out.
Talky Tina will mess you up.
Now imagine toys that have actual souls in them. Animated by Egyptian spells – because, you know, messing with Egyptian mysticism never goes wrong. You think you’re getting Buzz and Woody? Nope. You’re getting these guys.
Hi there. Where’s your kid?
Released starting in 1989, the Puppet Master movies, put out by Full Moon Studios, feature a group of toys animated by Egyptian magic and corrupted by Nazis. The movies have a huge cult following (of which I am a proud member) and is a beloved entry into the slasher series of the ’80s-’90s. People have their own favorite toys, cosplay them, and can quote the movies backwards and forwards.
Puppet Master fans, the time has come: Action Lab has a new Puppet Master comic hitting shelves today, April 1st. No Fooling! Everyone is back: Blade, Tunneler, Leech Woman – they’re all here, waiting to take readers on a new adventure.
The book starts out in true slasher fashion, with a snippet of Victim #1 talking to an unknown second party, when the gang shows up. Flash forward two months, and we’ve got a car full of horny teens on their way to an abandoned hotel. There’s a story behind the building: isn’t there always? You have a good idea right off the bat who Survivor Girl will be, and who’s getting offed first. Reading this issue with a fantastic trip back to my late teens, and reuniting with Blade & Co. was like catching up with an old friend. This one is NOT for the kids, friends – there’s content and blood. Revel in it, but hold off on leaving this one around for Junior to find.
Horror fans, don’t miss this book. Add it to your pull list, kick back, and enjoy.
