Preview/Review BOOM! Studios Eternal #1 - in stores Dec 10th!More Sci-fi! It’s amazing how many science fiction comics are being published these days. It was always assumed that if a company was going to make it in this industry they wouldn’t do it by challenging Marvel and DC, they’d do it by tapping the audience in a different way. Action Lab, Archie, Dynamite, Dark Horse, BOOM, they’ve all found niches to inhabit and though none are challengers to the king as it were they all seem to be chugging along at a nice clip.

This newest outing from BOOM! comes to us from William Harms (Impaler, Infamous), who has put together a deep intricate world of political and scientific conflict. The idea of immortality through cloning is an uncomfortable one for some and this book addresses both side of the idea head on.

It was definitely a first issue and suffered a bit due to the necessary exposition, but the story is interesting and the characters believable. Giovanni Valetta’s (Dark Horse Presents) artwork is realistic without being hyperly so, with good layouts and recognizable characters. He reminds me slightly of Brian Woods “The Massive” though with a much brighter color palette (brought to the page by Adam Metcalfe). The star of the show however is the over arching idea of the ethics of progress, perfection and what’s best for humanity. It will be interesting to see how the questions posed by Harms play out.

Here, enjoy a preview of Giovanni Valetta’s excellent work, along with a glimpse of the plot…
