There a few parts of this job that are very gratifying, knowing you got what the author or artist was trying to say, being asked to review a book because someone enjoys your reviews, seeing a book you loved (that you’ve recommended) go further, these are the things that make this job great… I’m so happy for these guys, I hope this book goes through the roof!
At Boston Comic Con in 2013 I was chatting with Alex Cormack and he showed me a project he had just launched with Brian Phillipson and Bliss On Tap Publishing. He showed me Future Proof, and I loved it Who Picks Up The Pieces When Time-travel Goes Awry? Answers lie in “Future Proof”). So why am I talking about it again now you ask? Well the book, which had two completed black & white issues, has morphed into a full color bi-monthly series!
Future Proof is a time-travel story, but it isn’t your average time-travel story…
After inventing a super-computer that figures out time travel we (the human race) do what we always do with great technology, abuse it. This time we decide to change history for the better, and mess up everything. When we join the story we’re following a team trying to fix the mistakes of the first batch of time travelers. Seem confusing? No actually, the story plays out very smoothly. Our main characters James and Simon are a cross between Quantum Leap and a buddy cop movie. They’re on a mission that they kind of understand the implications of (as much as any of us could grasp it) and they’re good at what they do. But what a job they have in front of them!
Issue one opens in Dallas Texas in 1963. I don’t think I need to go into what was undone that now needs redoing do I? Not an assignment I’d relish but they do their level-headed best to get the job done. Here take a look… (these are not necessarily sequential pages, just some story samples).
So let’s be honest, between my review, the cool concept, and the awesome art you’re ready to pick this book up? Great! Go to your local comic shop tell them to open this month’s previews magazine to page FS-5 (the Staff Picks section!) or page 264 (the Spotlight ad!) and order you a copy! It hit’s the shops on September 24th so we’re right in that perfect pre-order window! What? Your local shop doesn’t have Previews mag floating around? Well here’s the order info!

Oh, one more thing… I’ve read issue #2 and the art, the writing, the concept itself just gets better and better. Buy this one.
This one gets a very well deserved 5 out of 5 stars!
