I’ve been a B.P.R.D. fan for years but lately they’ve been a little off for me. Some of the stories have been great, Pickens County Horror comes to mind and most recently The Transformation of J.H. O’Donnell. But others have left me scratching my head, the Hell on Earth story line for the most part has been a little boring.
I just finished “Exorcism” and I’ve got to say I’m impressed. I’ve rarely read a comic dealing with exorcism (if ever). This book was creepy and interesting. It took me a minute to get used to Cameron Stewart’s style, it’s definitely is a new look for a B.P.R.D. book. Once you get used to his cleaner less disturbing palette you really get sucked in. That’s not to say I didn’t like the art, I really did. The depiction of the demon was downright frightening! He’s just not as dark and moody as Guy Davis or Tyler Cook. Here take a look.
The creepiness is there it just isn’t as moody. When the book returns to present day we meet our lead investigator Ashley Strode. We’ve previously seen Agent Strode (in a supporting role) in War on Frogs #3. I think she’s one of the more interesting new recruits to take center stage.
I miss Hellboy, Abe, Liz, Roger, and Ben Diamio but at least Abe and Liz still seem to be around. I’m not really clear on where the Hell on Earth storyline is taking us and if there will be a series after it but if they make the next batch of stories as well as this one I’ll be along for the ride. Strong 4 out of 5! How about you, are you a Hellboy fan? B.P.R.D.? Have any speculations on where they’re going? Let me hear it in the comments!
You’re still here? OK one more page, just cause you read this far…
Damn that’s creepy…..
