This coming Monday, January 25th, sees the start of the digital comic Adventures of Supergirl. The new, bi-weekly series by veteran Supergirl writer Sterling Gates will be firmly set within the universe of the CBS series and mark the first Supergirl comic for DC since the cancellation of the New 52 ongoing title. As a fan of Supergirl and everything revolving around CBS’ Supergirl, I cannot wait for her new series. While I’m not the biggest fan of digital comics as I still prefer print (and yes, I still buy my music on vinyl and cd), I’ll certainly make the exception for Adventures of Supergirl. And, after getting a look at a few select panels from the upcoming 13-chapter series, I could not be more excited for DC Comics’ choice to continue the adventures of Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl/Kara Danvers in the comic medium.
We’re based in their world. This is our take on the TV version of Supergirl. If you read my run on “Supergirl” back in 2008 to 2011 and you are now reading this series, it will be a fairly similar voice. It’s very positive voice in a dark and cynical world. That will feel very familiar to you. But again, it’s very rooted in the show. I’m working really closely with the producers to make sure that the comic lines up with how they perceive Supergirl to be on the show. And they have been awesome to work with. I have seen all of the episodes and I have all of the scripts. They’ve really opened up and given me access to anything that I might need to help us produce this book. It will feel like the show. That’s always been the goal. It’s an extension of the show. And will also feel like an extension of the run that I wrote almost a decade ago. – Sterling Gates to CBR
DC Comics’ The Flash: Season Zero and Arrow: Season 2.0 have been solid additions to the DC lineup, along with being genuinely fun titles to read. It’s great seeing CBS’ Supergirl series getting the comic book expansion treatment, especially this early on.
If you like Supergirl as much as I do (and What’cha Reading), make sure to check out Adventures of Supergirl Monday, January 25th. Every other week, CBS.com will receive new story lines and exclusive preview panels. You can purchase the digital comic on the DC Comics App, Readdcentertainment.com, iBooks, comiXology.com, Google Play, Kindle Store, Nook Store, and iVerse ComicsPlus.
And, as always, be sure to watch Supergirl 8 pm ET, Monday nights on CBS. Check your local listings.
