I grew up with the Wyld Stallyns, Bill & Ted. I had the VHS tapes of their Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey. I had some of the Kenner action figures and I even had a tape of some of the Excellent Adventures cartoons. One piece that was always missing was the early 90’s Marvel Comics by Evan Dorkin. They were pretty tough to find in the early 90’s and, until last year when Boom! Studios launched a new ongoing series for the teens from San Dimas, the Evan Dorkin comics started to re-appear in comic shops. Today Boom! Studios have fulfilled my totally awesome hope of one day reading all of the original Bill & Ted Excellent Comic Book issues! “Bodacious!”
Boom! Studios have “re-mastered” the original Evan Dorkin scripted and illustrated Bill & Ted’s Excellent Comic Book and it’s a lot of fun getting to read these. The Excellent Comic Book feels in place with the humor of the films and is right in line with the Excellent Adventures animated series.
Even though Bogus Journey wasn’t as well received as Excellent Adventure, it did contribute heavily to the Bill & Ted mythos in giving us Death, played by none other than William Sadler! They’re all here in the Evan Dorkin series and the writing captures the same dim-witted but lovable qualities of Bill S. Preston and Theodore “Ted” Logan, along with the dry humor of Rufus!
Cue the air guitar! Bill & Ted’s Excellent Comic Book Adventures is here! And remember, Death has a new name… it’s Morty! Party on, dudes!
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Comic Book Adventures gets five stars!
