As we previously reported, the New Jersey Comic Expo is this weekend’s major convention, taking place at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, NJ. One of the major highlights for us was the presence of Neca and it was our first course of business to stop by their booth. Located conveniently near the main entrance, their display of current and upcoming action figures and collectibles is one not to miss. Interestingly, most shows like San Diego and New York Comic Con are the shows where you could expect big reveals, not so much the smaller ones. In the original press release, Neca promised a few surprises and lo and behold, their have been quite a few.
However, the biggest surprise was finding the upcoming Ultimate Edition action figure of Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. While the figure is due out this December, many fans did not expect to see this figure “in the wild” just yet. We’ve long supported the work of Neca and they are certainly one of the best action figure companies in the business. One of the issues many fans had with McFarlane was that the detail was on point, but each figure had very limited points of articulation. Neca produces figures that find the best of both worlds with sculpts that capture every detail of costume and person immaculately, yet feature enough points of articulation for plenty of great hours of play.
The Ultimate Edition of Sarah Connor will most certainly be one of the most sought out of collectibles hitting stores this season. The previous photos released were impressive, but seeing the action figure in person was very exciting. Neca has produced an amazing sculpt perfectly capturing Linda Hamilton’s beloved heroine. This will certainly be a great one to add to the collection and place beside the ever expanding line of Ellen Ripley figures from the Aliens line. (We were told to expect to see Alien 3 figures with a bald Ripley soon. Our guess will be New York Toy Fair.)
Neca also displayed products from one of their latest lines-Cinemachines, which is expected to debut sometime in 2016. If you like replicas of vehicles and ships and could imagine a larger scale of the terrific MicroMachines by Galoob, although Randy Falk of Neca has compared them to Action Fleet. During the Neca panel, it was revealed that we can expect these to go up for pre-order sometime in the coming week. There will also be additions to the line such as vehicles from T2. We could expect to see more by Toy Fair.
