May PREVIEWS Has some great stuff to show!

PrintI have recently come to appreciate Diamond Comic Distributors’ monthly mega-magazine, PREVIEWS.  For those that don’t know about the magazine, it’s essentially a comic-book, collectible, and entertainment bible for everything that we enjoy about said comic-books, collectibles, and entertainment!  It’s an indispensable guide for not only the fans that keep this industry steaming steadily along the tracks, but for the local comic book shops that help service all of your essential needs.

This month’s front cover (shown above) is graced by the new Image Comics series from Saga‘s Brian K. Vaughan and The Matrix‘s Steve Skroce We Stand On Guard. Seems the United States is invading Canada, and the Canadians have said No Way eh!

Movie Month ThemeOne of the key features that sounds interesting is the “Movie Month” aspect that will feature the comic-books and graphic novels “that serves as the basis for movies, or vice-versa”, along with interviews with Mark Millar (Kingsmen: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass, Wanted) and Jeff Lemire (Descender).

Diamond has some titles they want you to hear about as well their “Gems of the Month” Here’s what they highlight this month:

May’s PREVIEWS Gems of the Month include: the bounty hunter Barb Wire returns to the mean streets of Steel Harbor in Dark Horse Comics’ Barb Wire by Chris Warner and Patrick Olliffe; a rare Neil Gaiman story returns to print in Free Country: A Tale of the Children’s Crusade from DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint; Captain Kirk teams with the Green Lantern Corps for a cosmic adventure in IDW Publishing’s Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War; Image Comics launches a new magazine-sized monthly comic anthology with Island; and the coolest character in a galaxy far, far away is back in Marvel Comics’ Star Wars: Lando by Charles Soule and Alex Maleev.

One of the books I’m most excited about is “Batgirl” issue 42.  Written by Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher, it features the proper post Flashpoint version of 90’s animated Superman villain, Livewire!  She’s my favorite character and villain; to see her on the cover and drawn by Stewart and Babs Tarr truly makes my day.  This will definitely be a title to look out for.

Batgirl can barely hold her own in combat against the new Batman… so what happens when Livewire joins the fight with the intention of taking them both out?

And then on the back cover we get a peek at…

That’s right Cyborg is getting his own solo series from David Walker, Ivan Reis, and Joe Prado!

The May issue of PREVIEWS magazine will be available at retailers on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
