So… My friend Richard Callender has a costume and prop making business. Cowardly Lot Costumes. He makes all sorts of stuff, but specializes in Superhero and Sci-Fi/Fantasy costumes and prop replicas. Here are a few examples:
Richard can really make anything, so feel free to contact him with just about any idea you have and place an order.
Be patient, the Matt Fraction stuff is coming…
Richard was contracted by a producer of The Best Show, a free-form music, talk and call in show hosted by Tom Scharpling on WFMU(wfmu.org), to create a costume for a character on the show, Doctor Cronut. If you don’t know what a cronut is, it’s a donut made of croissant batter. It’s also stupid fad and not really worth the three-hour wait to get one (yeah I’m looking at you Shake Shack, stop being sheep people!!!).
I promise, Matt Fraction appears in this article…
So Richard, working off a design sketch went ahead and banged out this awesome cowl and wig, a jumpsuit and cape, and completed the costume with a Cronut-o-tron ray-gun he made, that had varying, adjustable sci-fiy sounds. As a bonus he got to go to the studio and set it all up with the crew:
Fraction. Coming. Soon.
The suit was a big hit, especially with show’s mascot Captain Bayonne.
While Richard waited in the green room, the show’s first guest finished up his set. It was none other then…. Matt Fraction (told ya!) Now, I’m a giant Hawkeye fan, have been since childhood. Richard knows this. Everyone who knows me, knows this. So Richard introduced himself, and said ” My friend is big Hawkeye fan…”
Now according to Richard, the “n” sound in fan wasn’t finished coming out of his mouth, before Matt Fraction whipped out a pad and said with a smile “What’s your friend’s name?”
And that is why Matt fraction is one cool dude.
Thanks Matt, there’s nothing better than having your belief that someone is as cool as his writing makes him seem, affirmed.
So go read some Hawkeye, get a few issues of Sex Criminals and put Silver Surfer by Fraction and Allred on your pull-list, and maybe soon you too can have a pretend comic autographed by him one day!
