Blake Garris:
Hello everyone and welcome to the Deadpool live blog!

UltimateKidNova:
Hey everybody, Marvel.com Associate Editor Ben Morse here, sorry I’m late!

UltimateKidNova:
We’re getting things underway with Deadpool writer Gerry Duggan, artist Tony Moore and editor Jordan White.

UltimateKidNova:
“I actually did like history in school, but there is a printout on my office wall right now from Wikipedia on all the U.S. presidents chronologically with X’s through some. It looks like the beginning of a

CIA investigation.” – Gerry Duggan on researching presidents for the first arc of Deadpool

UltimateKidNova:
“Gerald Ford is a bit of a stumble bum, JFK has a weakness for the ladies.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“This was the idea we hoped they would say yes to and expected them to say no to. We knew it would be around the election and Halloween. We wanted our Ghostbusters or Big Trouble in Little

China: a big action story that’s also funny.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“My initial reaction was ‘That’s hilarious, there’s no way we’ll get away with it.’ I was shocked to find everybody was brave enough to let us put this book out.” – Jordan White on Gerry and Brian

Posehn’s Deadpool pitch

UltimateKidNova:
“We tried to write a Deadpool that fans will recognize as the guy they love and that new fans can jump on with. We’re not reinventing the wheel. We did want to reestablish and reintroduce him to

new fans.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“We knew Tony was going to be the artist and wanted to give him his fastball with this plot. I think this is his best work. I’m biased.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“The people who are just expecting this to be a comedy book will be pleasantly surprised to find there is more to it.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“I tried to wrap my head around how Deadpool’s costume would work in a logical manner. I took the iconic elements and tried to make it into something a guy who kicks ass for a living would

wear.” – Tony Moore

UltimateKidNova:
“Deadpool has a gajillion pouches. I brought back the leg pouch from the Rob Liefeld days because why not.” – Tony Moore

UltimateKidNova:
“I tend to over-design and then end up hating myself. I tried my best not to do that this time.” – Tony Moore

UltimateKidNova:
“Teddy Roosevelt has been my favorite president to draw so far. He’s just a great icon of what it means to be an American.” – Tony Moore

UltimateKidNova:
“Teddy Roosevelt demanded a higher page count. Franklin Pierce might get less panel time.” – Gerry Duggan
3:15

UltimateKidNova:
“We had an idea that William Henry Harrison would be the ultimate villain because he was only president for two weeks. He’s not.” – Jordan White

UltimateKidNova:
“Taft does return in his bathtub.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“We try not to be content with the joke we originally wrote for Tony, but to beat it once he starts drawing.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“We might address Deadpool’s reaction to the death of Professor X later, but right now he’s on this adventure. That is an event that has reverberations everywhere though, he’s not immune.” –

Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“I want to meet the Deadpool cosplayer that gets up at 5 in the morning before a con to do the scarred face. I will give away a signed copy of issue #1!” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“Ronald Reagan finally gets to enjoy a little Star Wars. We’ll leave that alone.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“Eagle-eyed comics fans might spot a special dentist working on George Washington’s wooden teeth.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“Keep reading.” – Gerry Duggan on whether or not any living presidents will show up

UltimateKidNova:
“We’re picking our spots, so hopefully when it happens it gets a laugh.” – Gerry Duggan on Deadpool breaking the 4th wall.

UltimateKidNova:
“The upcoming election really won’t play a part in the story. We wanted to have some fun, and I really don’t think there’s much fun in that!” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“It’s nice for Deadpool that if his candidate doesn’t win he can just head back to Canada.” – Tony Moore “I think being Canadian is the least of the reasons Deadpool can’t vote.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“Ben Franklin is a scientist, a writer and a ladies man. He’s got three guys worth of jokes in him.” – Tony Moore

UltimateKidNova:
“The fun thing about Deadpool is how people react being seen standing next to him. The Avengers will help him if the situation demands it, but they don’t want to be seen doing it. He’s so

uncharismatic that even Thor needs to fly away immediately after being paired up with him.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“Deadpool gets a little bit of help from Doctor Strange, who wants to close the door to his house as soon as there’s a knock on the door.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
There was just a press question if the 1970’s storyline where Ben Franklin stole Doctor Strange’s girlfriend would be addressed.

UltimateKidNova:
“You may have just changed the course of Marvel NOW! Deadpool.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“If we revisit this in an Annual, you will be appropriately thanked.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“We are introducing a new supporting cast and hope people like them, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be revisiting his old pals as well. Deadpool is more fun with a group around him.” – Gerry

Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“There’ s a Jodie Foster reference in the Reagan issue that made us laugh that I hope makes it…” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“There was a joke where Doctor Strange was going to disguise himself and Wong as the Silver Surfer and his surfboard so they wouldn’t be seen with Deadpool, and Deadpool would say

‘Whatever he pays Wong, it’s not enough.’ We thought it was funny for a second.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“I’m proud of Deadpool #1. For $2.99, if you pick it up and aren’t already a Deadpool fan, we want to make you one. We know there are a lot of preconceived notions about comedians and people

outside of comics writing comics, and we want to stake those through the heart. We’re so grateful that Marvel gave us this chance and gave us Tony Moore and Geof Darrow and Val Staples. Pick

it up for the art if nothing else.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
“These guys were born and raised on comics.” – Tony Moore on Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn

UltimateKidNova:
Gerry thanking the press for taking time out of their day to do this. Such a nice dude.

UltimateKidNova:
Blake asking who would win a Gerry Duggan vs. Brian Posehn fight to the death.

UltimateKidNova:
“Brian has the reach and the height, I’ve probably got him on weight. I think he takes me because he’s got that secret craziness that will erupt out him. I think I’d have him and then he’d eat my face

like he’s on bath salts. He looks like a pushover, but he’s not. Together nobody could take us though. We’re like Hammer & Anvil.” – Gerry Duggan

UltimateKidNova:
We will be back tomorrow with Rick Remender to talk Captain America.

UltimateKidNova:
Thanks Gerry, Tony and Jordan for coming by, thanks Blake for being Blake, thanks to all of you for being here and thanks to “The Rocket” Jim Viscardi for being the host with the most.

UltimateKidNova:
Deadpool #1 is on sale Wednesday, November 7 for only $2.99!

UltimateKidNova:
And keep checking marvel.com/marvelnow for the latest art and more.
