Check out the latest trailer for “Tomb Raider”!

The much anticipated second and final trailer is out for director Roar Uthaug’s Tomb Raider. While there is still much to be discovered about this tomb, we now know a little more of the plot, a lot more about the always great Walton Goggins, and several more scenes that spectacularly showcase Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander as a very new kind of Lara Croft. You could view the new trailer for Tomb Raider below:

What’s remarkable about the new trailer for Tomb Raider is Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. While other female led action films have worked, Wonder Woman was still very much fantasy, and so was Star Wars Episodes 7 and 8, as well. This Tomb Raider plays off as a considerably more grounded and real world based adventure as opposed to the 2001 and 2003 films starring Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie. In the months leading up to the March release, Warner Bros. has made no secret of the physical transformation Alicia Vikander went through to play Lara Croft; it’s been the focal point of much of this film’s marketing – be it through a BTS featurette or the theatrical posters. In the new trailer, we see a focus on the practical action -with Lara boxing, working as a bike courier, and general tomb raiding. With a new Mission: Impossible out this year, it looks like Alicia Vikander would be ready to fill Tom Cruise’s shoes if her ever decided to part ways with his most famous franchise.

While video game films are generally often disregarded, the Resident Evil films found great success, with Milla Jovovich playing Alice across six movies. It’s understandable if audiences were to still be unsure of Tomb Raider, but after this trailer, it looks like director Roar Uthaug’s film is going to be quite the entertaining action/adventure film!

But mostly due to Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft!

The film follows Lara Croft as she sets out on her first expedition to finish her father’s (Dominic West) research and uncover ancient secrets in order to clear his disgraced name.

MGM and Warner Bros. are co-producing the film, with MGM overseeing production. The studios acquired the rights from GK Films, which had previously purchased the film rights in 2011 from Square Enix Ltd. Graham King is producing.

Tomb Raider stars Alicia Vikander, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Dominic West. The film is directed by Roar Uthaug, from a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Tomb Raider opens March 16, 2018.
