This week on the CW is “DC Week,” which includes the return of such shows as The Flash and Arrow as well as the premiere of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Tonight we saw the special, DC Presents: Dawn of the Justice League. During the premiere, the newest trailer for the highly-anticipated DC movie Suicide Squad aired. The first trailer officially premiered at San Diego Comic Con back in July 2015 to a rousing reception. It gave the public its first live-action, on-screen look at the cast and an introduction to their characters along with a split-second cameo from the Caped Crusader himself, Batman. The most well-received character was Jared Leto’s Joker. Since the trailer, the movie and its cast have appeared on magazine covers and over the weekend, the cast shared their character’s promo posters through various social media outlets, following director David Ayer who shared a group promo poster on social media.
Ayer’s and the team behind Suicide Squad has put together a solid cast that includes Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Jai Courtney among others. Viola Davis is Amanda Waller and judging from what was seen in the first trailer, has no problem pulling off the role. Even though she was only seen and heard for the first minute, she has taken her prowess from How to Get Away with Murder and applied it to Waller. It will be intriguing to see her character develop over the course of the movie.
Suicide Squad looks like an all-out fun, shoot ’em up action movie with a comic book theme. Jai Courtney, Will Smith and Adam Beach are no strangers to movies with guns and explosions which makes them a great fit for this movie. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje previously starred in Thor: the Dark World which gives him comic book movie experience. Jared Leto has re-invented The Joker in a way no one thought possible and Margot Robbie has Harley Quinn down to a science.
Suicide Squad opens August 2016.
