IDW’s X-Files Season 10 Is Like Coming Home (7 Page Preview/Review)

Last month our intrepid Nancy Joyce reviewed IDW’s X-Files #1. She liked it, very much, but confessed in her review that she wasn’t into X-Files when the series aired.

Well let me assure you, I was. X-Files was an institution in my house, my wife and I never missed an episode and even had my sister-in-law come to our house and press record on the VCR while we were on our honeymoon in 1995.

The movies were good, I’d welcome a third but this is even better in so many ways. This new series opened with us catching up to Mulder and Scully 12 years after the events that ended the series. They’re living under assumed names seemingly quite happily. But things get weird, as things tend to do around people such as these. Scully is targeted and taken and it’s up to Mulder and Skinner (Yea Skinner!) to track down who from their past has resurfaced. Is it alien-hybrid super soldier? Is it the Syndicate, reformed and back in business? Is it some wacked-out perp who they put away in their illustrious career?

Issue 2 starts out with a classic X-Files lead in, a seemingly unrelated case being investigated by none other than John Doggett (looking and speaking every bit Robert Patrick) who may or may not have met with foul play. Then it jumps right back into the fray, giving us glimpses of what’s happening to Scully while following Mulder and Skinner (Yea Skinner, wait I already said that) on the investigation. Someone has hacked the FBI and gotten a ton of info? Who you gonna call? As Mulder puts it “Someone I can trust!”

  X-Files#2-06 X-Files#2-07

I’m not going to spoil it. But it is so worth the reveal. This book doesn’t only look like the X-Files it actually flows like the show. Whatever magic formula the creators of the Buffy ongoing discovered they must have shared it with this crew.

If you’re a fan of the X-Files and you’re not reading this, you. are. missing. out.

Issue #2 appears in comic shops on Wednesday (July 17th 2013), make sure you buy it. Oh and make sure you take the number of the comic shop, you’re going to want to call and add it to your pull list right after you finish.
