In anticipation of DreamWorks Animation’s 3D comedy adventure Mr. Peabody & Sherman coming to theaters on March 7, 2014, IDW will release a comic series. ,Additionally, IDW is planning a brand-new Rocky & Bullwinkle series for early 2014 release. While creative details have yet to be announced, there are also plans for reprints of the wealth of previously published comics based on Ward’s colorful characters.
“Jay Ward’s characters and concepts are landmarks in animation storytelling, and they remain as funny and relevant as ever,” said IDW President Greg Goldstein. “The phrase ‘fan-favorite’ is often overused, but in this case, it’s well earned and justified. We’re thrilled to add these brands to our ever growing list of all-ages titles.”

As a weary community braces for the onslaught of an incoming superstorm, an even more insidious force grows right under their noses! When a sudden outbreak turns every animal in sight into raging, flesh-craving monsters, a colorful cast of characters will have no choice but to contend with THE OTHER DEAD!
Creators Joshua Ortega (Gears of War, Star Wars Tales), Digger T. Mesch (Agent 88, Founder of Art Asylum), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator Kevin Eastman have banded together to tell the tale of a town gripped by an infestation that can only be described as “stronger, faster, deader.”
Written by Ortega based on a film treatment by Digger, with covers by Eastman, interior art by Qing Ping Mui, and colors by Blond, THE OTHER DEAD presents a truly horrifying scenario. When every tier of the animal kingdom, from cats, dogs, and mice to lions, tigers, and bears, are transformed into super-strong, turbo-fast, bloodthirsty zombies, how will mankind survive? When a vicious attack can come at any moment from a fluffy tabby, a sleepy hound dog, or a ten-point buck, how can you stay safe?
“This undead animal collective is a perfect storm,” said Digger. “It’s a chance to work with close friends who also happen to be creative giants on something that’s going to be huge; no brainer. ”
As the infection spreads across six rabid issues, a diverse cast of characters, ranging from a demon-obsessed death metal band to a paranoid survivalist to the President of the United States himself, will try to contend with the most unpredictable zombie outbreak in history!
“I’m incredibly honored to be working with such an amazing and talented team on a book with such a fun and unique premise, said Ortega. “I mean, who wouldn’t want to work with the legendary Kevin Eastman on a story about zombie animals!? It’s an incredibly awesome and over-the-top opportunity, and we’re all having a blast with it. Readers are in for one unforgettable ride, I can promise you that!”
“The Other Dead has not only a savagely compelling story, but also stunningly gorgeous artwork by the amazing Qing Ping Mui with colors by Blond!,” echoed Eastman. “We’re all incredibly excited to get this book out there to readers and fans everywhere!”
This September, IDW urges fans to take shelter at their nearest comic shop, be on the lookout for bite marks, and whatever you do, don’t trust your pets!
IDW Publishing is proud to announce that for the first time, Christian Gossett’s acclaimed series THE RED STAR will be collected into a deluxe hardcover format!
This fall, fans of THE RED STAR can look forward to a new presentation of all four of the series’ volumes, complete with a wealth of bonus material from Gossett’s archives.
“IDW has raised the industry standard with its deluxe line, and THE RED STAR is known for its world-class production value, so this is a match made in heaven,” said Gossett. “I’m proud that our long-time readership will at last be offered the lavish version they deserve, and to give new readers their best opportunity yet to discover this unique and ongoing saga.”
THE RED STAR began with The Battle of Kar Dathras Gate in 1999. A fiercely unique fusion of imaginative technology, a deep, fully-realized universe, and a Soviet-influenced aesthetic, the series was a massive success, leading to three more volumes and incarnations as video and role-playing games. Though it was published in oversized trade paperbacks, fans have never before been able to find all of THE RED STAR in a deluxe format, but that’s about to change.
“Red Star remains one of the most imaginative and visually stunning creator-owned projects of the last 15 years,” said IDW’s President, Greg Goldstein. “We’re delighted to be able offer it in the deluxe format it truly deserves.”
This fall, fans of skyfurnaces, immortal Soviet sorcerers, and other denizens of the singular world of THE RED STAR need look no further than IDW Publishing!
And the one I’m most excited about!
While it’s long been announced that Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Eisner-winning epic Locke & Key is approaching the story’s conclusion, details of the finale have finally been announced, and the finale has become even bigger than originally revealed.
The concluding series, Locke & Key: Omega, will now run five issues instead of six, and the finale itself will bring the Keyhouse down in the form of LOCKE & KEY: ALPHA, a series of two forty-eight-page issues that will end the series with the kind of intense, macabre aplomb that made it a hit for six series!
“We hadn’t wanted to reveal the direction this finale was going to take until now in order to maintain necessary secrecy over how LOCKE & KEY wraps up,” said series editor and IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “But after Omega, there can only be Alpha. And the series will end much the way it began, in the form of an extra-length issue. Two, in this case. Hard to fit this much death and destruction into just a regular-sized issue…”
Ryall added “It’s been an incredible rewarding six years of Locke & Key, and we’ve loved seeing Locke & Key build a larger and more rabid audience with each volume of the series. Add to that the fans who’ve liked the series enough to tattoo it on their bodies, the actual keys built by Israel Skelton’s Skelton Crew Studios, the Fox pilot, the Eisner Awards and everything else we’ve experienced, and it’s been one of the more rewarding series IDW has ever published. And now it’s time to close this storyline in a way that will be as equally memorable as everything we’ve seen over nearly 40 issues from Hill, Rodriguez and colorist Jay Fotos.”
Locke & Key has enjoyed a massively successful critical and commercial run and found a die-hard group of passionate fans. Though all good things must come to an end, LOCKE & KEY: ALPHA promises to cap things off in the kind of legendary, eye-popping fashion that can only come from the minds of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.
For the saved and the damned alike, it’s always darkest before the dawn… or is it? This August, there’s only one way to find out.
