GraphicAudio® releases Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars! ~ What'cha Reading?

GraphicAudio® releases Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars!

This came in this morning and honestly I wasn’t even going to comment. But having reviewed an audio comic recently (The Perhapanauts MONSTERS AMONG US! or… Chimaera Wanna Tellya Somethin’ which I genuinely enjoyed) I felt it would be disingenuous to ignore Marvel’s forays into the field. First the announcement,

GraphicAudio® releases Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars!

Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars

One of the biggest comic events in MARVEL’s history now available in GraphicAudio® A Movie In Your Mind® Audiobook Format

New York, NY – February 18, 2015 – GraphicAudio® A Movie in Your Mind® in conjunction with Marvel brings one of the biggest comic events in MARVEL’s history, to life. With full cast recordings, outstanding sound effects and cinematic music, listeners are transported into the Marvel Universe. MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS, based on the classic Marvel story line celebrating its 30th year anniversary in an amazing audio production, starring the Marvel heroes you know and love.

In MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS written by Alex Irvine, the fate of the entire Marvel Universe hangs in the balance as Earth’s mightiest heroes face their greatest challenge! Summoned across the stars by the mysterious and unbelievably powerful Beyonder, the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men are set against their deadliest foes on the mysterious planet known as Battleworld – with the winner promised the ultimate prize. But as battle lines are drawn, new alliances are forged and old enemies clash, one among them is not willing to settle for anything less than godhood. Can even the heroes’ combined might prevent Dr. Doom from becoming the most powerful being in the universe?

The audio quality in the clip provided is good and GraphicAudio has a track record with Marvel (GraphicAudio’s Marvel line includes DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA, SPIDER-MAN: DROWNED IN THUNDER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: ROCKET RACOON & GROOT STEAL THE GALAXY!, NEW AVENGERS: BREAKOUT, ASTONISHING X-MEN: GIFTED, and IRON MAN: EXTREMIS, for which they received a Best Audio Dramas of 2014 accolade from AudioFile Magazine) but I’m not going to lie I wasn’t impressed. The voice acting just seemed, well for lack of a better word, cheesy. There have been many actors (both voice and physical) who played these characters yet not only does it seem like none were used they even went in different directions than you’d expect. Here have a listen…

Am I wrong? Lord knows I could be off base here but was that anything like you’d expect? To my ear the narrator was reading almost as if he were purposely enunciating everything as clearly as possible. Which just comes off stiff. And Iron Man, Cap, Wolverine? Thank goodness he named them before they spoke (most of the time) because I wouldn’t have guessed who was who. This is probably going to be one of those polarizing issues over here at What’cha Reading. Some of us will love it and some of us won’t. What do you think? Let us know in the comments…

MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS is available from and via the FREE GraphicAudio Access™ Mobile App which allows customers to directly download titles on their Android or iOS smartphones and tablets.
