Gotham – Five Things We’ll Miss (during the mid-season hiatus)

Last week the mid-season finale of Gotham left us, and you as well I’m sure, wanting more. According to Fox, we have to wait until February 29 for the second half of Gotham but have no fear because this article will fill your needs for as long as possible. There has been some good news in the world of Gotham with new casting announcements for the second half. Without further ado, I present five things we will miss, and look forward to in Gotham.

Gotham - Five Things We'll Miss (during the mid-season hiatus)

I. Theo Galavan: I’ll miss Theo Galavan’s character because he was a psychological mastermind which to me is a much better villain than a one who just kills people or robs banks. You never knew what he was going to do next in his quest to take over Gotham City. James Frain played the role to perfection. He looked the part and played it with such elegance that you couldn’t help but like his character despite him being a villain.

Mr. Freeze

II. Dr. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze: Back in October they announced Nathan Darrow of House of Cards as Dr. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze and like me, you probably couldn’t wait to see when he appeared for the first time. We got our wish in a cut scene at the end of last week’s finale. You can read my review here. I am very excited to see how they present his back story and Nora, his wife who is in a cryogenic state until Victor can cure her.

Ed and Oswald

III. Ed Nygma and Oswald Cobblepot: We saw the beginning of a beautiful friendship in the first half of the season when Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) finds Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) shacked up in the woods after escaping Gordon (Ben McKenzie) after the massacre at Theo Galavan’s inauguration party. The friendship isn’t really sinister yet, just basic and even comical but it’s something that fans have quickly embraced. I’m not alone in saying we can’t wait to see what this friendship has in store for the characters, the show and the fans.

B.D. Wong

IV. New characters: Aside from Mr. Freeze, there were a bevy of new cast announcements for the second half of Gotham. They announced B.D. Wong of Law & Order: SVU and Jurassic Park fame as Dr. Hugo Strange shortly after the news about Freeze. Strange got his own teaser at the end of the finale as well, when Galavan’s body is brought into the Indian Hill facility. Michael Bowen of Breaking Bad and Lost fame has been cast as Patrick “Matches” Malone. If you remember, M. Malone is the name Silver gives to The Knife during the mock kidnapping of Bruce when he asks who killed Thomas and Martha Wayne. Last, but certainly not least, Lori Petty of Free Willy, Point Break and most recently Orange is the New Black fame has been cast as Jeri, a nightclub hostess.

V. Barbara Keane: I miss Barbara’s character now that she’s in a coma, stemming from fall out of the church window. Erin Richards has done a great job in the role of Barbara as she went from Gordon’s loving girlfriend to Theo Galavan’s deranged puppets after her stint in Arkham. It was exciting to watch her and I hope they bring her character back soon.

Well, there you have it fans, a top five list to hold you over for a little while at least. I’d like to hear from my fellow Gotham fans. Let me know what your take is on the show, and this list. What have you thought of the first half of the season? Would you like to add something to this list that I may have left out?
