Elizabeth Banks Goes Evil in Power Rangers ~ What'cha Reading?

Elizabeth Banks Goes Evil in Power Rangers

When the Power Rangers movie was first announced back in 2014, many fans of the original TV show like myself were skeptical. We cherished the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers  and its characters so the last thing we wanted to hear was a reboot.  Original co-creator Haim Saban teamed up with Lionsgate who will produce the film and release it in 2017.  The plot and the characters will remain the same.   While the actors and actresses cast as the Rangers themselves are relatively unknown, there has been one major name casted.  It was recently announced that Elizabeth Banks of The Hunger Games franchise and Pitch Perfect franchise fame has been cast as the evil witch Rita Repulsa.  This is big news for fans and for the film, which could see a lot more publicity and interest as production goes on.

Elizabeth banks is a great actress and after seeing her tweet that, I am comfortable with her playing Rita.  It seems she knows the history of the original series and Rita herself.  It will be interesting to see if she can put on Rita’s nasily, raspy voice.  Banks will join newcomers Naomi Scott (Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zach Taylor/Black Ranger), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger) and singing star Becky Gomez a.k.a. Becky G. (Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger) in the movie.  I don’t have an opinion on the new cast because other than Becky Gomez, I had never seen or heard of them before.  As more news breaks, What’cha Reading will have you covered.  As a fan of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers I was casually following the little bits of news that was breaking about the film but this announcement is huge and I will certainly be keeping my eyes and ears open going forward.
