Des Taylor’s Scarlett Couture – Filled with Action and Style!

Des Taylor's Scarlett Couture - Filled with Action and Style!

Artist, illustrator, writer, and friend of What’cha Reading – Des Taylor will soon find his first issue of Scarlett Couture hitting the comic shops this April. Taylor, hailing from England, recently released his Lois and Clark Holiday Special one-shot, which we welcomed with open arms.  Scarlett Couture, one of his many characters (along with Katie Rogers, Vesha Valentine, and the Blue Lotus) will see her comic book debut courtesy of Titan Comics.

The good people at Titan Comics have Scarlett Couture issue #1 set for an April 29th release.  The story contains various themes of action and espionage as Scarlett secretly works for the C.I.A. while covertly disguised as Head of Security for her mother’s internationally renowned fashion house.  The four issue series will be getting the variant cover treatment with Cover A featuring Des Taylor’s art and Cover B starring model Viktoria Dobos as Scarlett Couture.  A little fact regarding the making of Cover B of Scarlett Couture is that Viktoria Dobos is the girlfriend of one of Taylor’s friends and the car is his wife’s!

If you haven’t read any of Des Taylor’s works or are unfamiliar, we highly suggest you take a look at his site, DESPOP.  You will find plenty of stunning art that blends pop art and comic art together in a seamless way.  Back during last year’s New York Comic Con, I had the sincere pleasure of getting to speak with him each day as I made it a habit to visit him, Titan Comics, and Madefire.  Here is a write up you may want to check out before you head off to your local comic store to pre-order Scarlett Couture issue 1. Des Taylor’s Lois and Clark – The Best Superman Comic!

From the preview pages alone, Des Taylor’s Scarlett Couture looks to be already one of the best and brightest of reads for 2015.  It seems like an exciting and fun character that will be an immediate hit with fans (it helps that she brings to mind classic Black Widow… and Scarlett Johansson too!)  Having read The Trouble With Katie Rogers and Lois and Clark, it is without any hesitation that I’d say Des Taylor is a true gift to the industry and that his sharp writing and wit lend itself to a medium that will continue to thrive as long as it has creators who truly care about the art form.  It’s already evident that he has created a name for himself with writers such as Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons praising him.  Hopefully, it will only be a matter of time before Taylor presents us with monthly artistic duties on a DC and/or Marvel series.  *Fingers crossed for Superman.  Sorry John Romita Jr.*
