DC Announces "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" ~ What'cha Reading?

DC Announces “Justice League: Gods and Monsters”

For those who grew up with the Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League and spin offs, there are two names you’ll immediately recognize: Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.  Both men are legends in the fields of storytelling and animation, and helped shape the DC animated universe.  After Bruce Timm stepped down as the supervising producer for the DC animation department in 2013, many fans worried that the visionary would be leaving the prolific comic publisher, but that was not the case.  Since then, Mr. Bruce Timm has still been involved with DC and his most current project is this July’s direct to Blu-ray/DVD/digital film “Justice League: Gods and Monsters.”  While the film releases on July 28th, the brand new alternate universe will also be getting the comic book and action figure collectible treatment.  Officially announced on DC All Access today, DC Entertainment will be releasing “a brand new six inch action figure line” featuring Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in its first wave.  The action figures by DC Collectibles will be available this fall.

Along with a wave of “Justice League: Gods and Monsters” action figures, fans will also have a Digital-First comic book miniseries to look forward to this July.  “Justice League: Gods and Monsters” will mark a decidedly different tone and depiction of DC’s heroes as we’ll see a vampire Batman alongside a Latin Superman who’s father isn’t Jor-El, but Zod!  As a fan of both Bruce Timm and DC Comics, I’m eagerly looking forward to the next DC animated film and, if you know me, you could never have too many Superman collectibles!

Stay tuned for more information as we grow closer to “Justice League: Gods and Monsters” premiere on July 28th, 2015.

Witness a divergent reality where the Justice League protects the planet – but answers to no one but themselves. Employing methods of intimidation and fear, this Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman deal brute force in the name of justice. From the creative genius of executive producer Bruce Timm and co-producer Alan Burnett comes an original story where the world’s greatest triumvirate of super heroes has distinctly different origins. Superman was not raised by the Kents in Smallville, the Caped Crusader is not Bruce Wayne, and Wonder Woman is not an Amazon warrior of Themyscira. They are as likely the world’s saviors as Earth’s despotic rulers. When a group of famed scientists experience untimely “accidents,” a government task force follows the trail of clues to the Justice League – but is there a more powerful player operating from the shadows? It’s a high stakes game of intrigue, mystery and action that asks the question: How do you serve justice to those above the law?

With a twist on your favorite Justice League characters, this film is full of thrilling new adventures and jam-packed with a celebrity voice cast which includes Michael C. Hall (Dexter) as Batman, Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order, 24) as Superman, Tamara Taylor (Bones) as Wonder Woman, Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) as Lois Lane, Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter films, Dig) as Lex Luthor and C. Thomas Howell (E.T., Southland) as Dr. Will Magnus.

Sam Liu (Batman: Year One) directed Justice League: Gods & Monsters from an original story by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns) and Co-Producer Alan Burnett (The Batman), who also wrote the screenplay. Executive Producers are Sam Register and Bruce Timm. Benjamin Melniker and Michael Uslan are Co-Executive Producers.
