Dark Horse – To Hell You Ride #1

1

Lance Henriksen, people. Bishop, from Aliens. Jesse Hooker from Near Dark. Ed Harley from Pumpkinhead. Lance Henriksen wasn’t awesome enough, so now he’s writing horror comics.

To Hell  You Ride is a horror comic set in the Colorado Mountains, starting in 1989. A missing girl is found dead. A curse plagues a small town in recompense for a an act of greed.  A Native American named Five George seems to know what’s going on, but who’s he telling? And will anyone listen?

Lance Henriksen and Joseph Maddrey (Nightmares in Red, White and Blue: The Evolution of American Horror Film) have quite the horror pedigree between the two, and they bring it with this first issue: there’s a solid backstory laid down, and the creeps set in with the first page. Tom Mandrake’s art makes you feel the grit in your teeth and smell the blood and dirt in the air. This is a title that should be on your pull lists, folks. I can’t wait to see more.

Rosemary Kiladitis is a children’s librarian, a mom, and a proud fangirl/nerdgirl. She did her homework while watching reruns of the 1966 Batman series, which led to her longstanding relationship with the Bat, and she’s pretty sure that Barbara Gordon is the real reason she went to library school. She loves superheroes, supervillains, and is secretly married to Hellboy. Or Loki. She can’t remember, but it’s one of them.
