Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, and Star Dust star Charlie Cox is trading in one suit for another. Fans of the actor will soon be seeing him in Marvel and Netflix’s “Daredevil” as the titular vigilante, himself. Marvel Entertainment released two new photos from the series in Entertainment Weekly’s current 2015 preview issue and we have them here!
The first image up is of Cox as the Man Without Fear. Seen in his all black, utilitarian, and almost military like outfit – it’s a costume that is directly inspired by Frank Miller and John Romita Jr’s four-issue miniseries “Daredevil: The Man Without Fear.”
The second image is of Matt Murdock navigating the streets of New York City.
While showrunner Steven S. DeKnight promises the iconic red costume, he is quick to say that this series will be unlike any other superhero or Marvel offering out there. Inspired more by films like “Taxi Driver” and “The French Connection” than by the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, “Daredevil” will be a visceral, rough and tumble, and decidedly more violent approach to a Marvel comic book character. “There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky; there are no magic hammers. We’ve always approached this as a crime drama first, superhero show second.” says Jeph Loeb (Daredevil: Yellow, Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Hush).
Steven S. DeKnight, showrunner and executive producer, also revealed yesterday on Twitter that production has officially wrapped on “Marvel’s Daredevil.” The series is set for a May 2015 premiere on Netflix.
