For the last few years, Dare2Draw has put on monthly drawing-classes mixed in with a game-show vibe and special-guest artist lecturers at the Society of Illustrators in Manhattan.
Industry professionals like Jamal Igle, Simon Fraser, Phil Jimenez and DC Comics” Art Director Mark Chiarello offer advice, talk about their work and careers. A mix of regulars, new aspiring talents and industry pros take part drawing professional models, cos-players, superheroes, gods and monsters! The main event of the evening is the Quick Draw Challenge, a competition to draw a zombified Batman, a space-faring Spider-Man, whatever you can dream up for swag and prizes from sponsors like Copic markers, Blue Line Pro and Pentell. Nobody walks out empty-handed when you visit Dare2Draw!
As a live event, Dare2Draw is a big hit, so in order to deliver this exciting event to the masses, Dare2Draw wants to make a TV show and will need your help. The Kickstarter to produce a pilot episode runs until October 17th. Check out the link to scope out the great prizes offered for pledging such as original artwork, autographed Rocket Girl comics from Amy Reeder and Molly Danger from Jamal Igle, as well as t-shirts and passes to Dare2Draw events. Like I said, no one leaves Dare2Draw empty-handed!
When I first started out as an aspiring comic book artist oh so long ago, there were very little resources for artists. Dare2Draw creates an important and needed resource by establishing a community for artists by artists.
I’ve attended Dare2Draw regularly for a while now and it is the most fun I have drawing, hanging out and meeting other artists and I learn a lot from the guest lecturers to boot. So the idea of a Dare2Draw TV show is a great fitting concept for a challenge based show in the style of Face-Off, Ink Master and Fashion Runway!
If you are anywhere near the New York area check out the Dare2Draw event in person. All skill levels and all ages are welcome! The next event is September 26th with special guest Alex Maleev.
Go pledge to their Kickstarter and then help spread the word! http://kck.st/16BcmlW
