Jessica Jones is now just under a month away and for those that didn’t get to see a special screening of the pilot during New York Comic Con, you will be able to see the first trailer for the Netflix series this Friday.
Marvel’s approach to Netflix produced wonders with the marvelous success that is Daredevil. From everything we’ve seen of Jessica Jones and heard from those that saw the panel and pilot during NYCC, it looks to be an even darker series than the one starring the Man Without Fear. Jessica Jones is a female superhero and private investigator most known to comic fans through her series Alias by Brian Michael Bendis. The hard edged and rougher take on the Marvel Universe, established through their imprint MAX, seems as if it’s going to translate very well on screen. Netflix has already released a few promo videos for the upcoming Netflix series and while we haven’t been given a direct look at the actual series (yet) the tone of Jessica Jones is established in a fabulously moody way.
We’d also like to make mention of David Tennant as Kilgrave, the Purple Man. He’s long been one of our favorite Daredevil villains and used to great affect in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s Daredevil: Yellow. He’s also the primary villain in Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias series, which you could find Nancy’s review of that here.
David Tennant is known to many as The Tenth Doctor on BBC’s Doctor Who (and my favorite, if asked). Seeing him portray Kilgrave should be interesting. We get our first glimpse of the manipulative mind games he’s playing with Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in the promo “All in a Day’s Work” and it seems to not even scratch the surface as to how evil he actually is.
Do you think you could handle spending a day with Jessica Jones? Have a look at the videos below and check back Friday for the first trailer.
