herehereThere is big news on the movie front following the surprise release of the Cloverfield sequel trailer. Connie Nielsen of Gladiator fame has been cast as Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons in 2017’s Wonder Woman solo film led by Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. The 50 year-old Danish actress has also appeared in such films as The Devil’s Advocate and One Hour Photo. Robin Wright of House of Cards drew speculation of being Hippolyta when her casting was announced but it seems she will be in a different, but major, role in the movie. The cast is quite sizable with other names Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremmer, Said Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya and Lucy Davis. The film will be directed by Patt Jenkins.
Connie Nielsen is an excellent choice. She shined opposite Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator so she has experience in a warrior-culture movie setting. Wonder Woman has blue eyes in the comics and Connie has blue eyes in real life so she can certainly pull off being Hippolyta in that sense. I cannot wait for this movie because the cast alone is stellar. Gal Gadot is the perfect Wonder Woman. You can read why here. Here’s a small clip as to why Connie Nielsen will be great in this role.
