As I was flipping through comics today at my local comic store, I came across one of Marvel’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” comic books by Jack Kirby. It made me think of how influential the Stanley Kubrick film as and if there would ever be another film with such an enduring legacy. I wondered if Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” could ever, if ever, produce something out of the ideas presented in the film. In what could only be described as a direct revelation, WIRED exclusively debuted earlier this morning a prequel comic to “Interstellar.”
“Absolute Zero” is a prequel to the events of “Interstellar” and focuses on a character that is integral to one of the plot twists later on in the majestic science-fiction movie. More excitingly is that the one-shot is written by Christopher Nolan with art by Sean Murphy (The Wake, Punk Rock Jesus). The issue is available now as a digital comic on WIRED and will be released in print alongside the December issue (guest-edited by Nolan).
While I still can’t say whether Nolan’s latest film will have as great an impact as the film that inspired it, it is very cool to see a comic book alongside “Interstellar.” I highly caution reading if you have yet to see the movie for the first time.
