Can we all take a moment to acknowledge something great happening right now? Director and writer Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) just tweeted “Mission: Accepted” with “#MI6”.
As of right now there has yet to be an official bells and whistles press announcement confirming the return of director/writer Christopher McQuarrie to the Tom Cruise franchise of Mission films. This tweet would seemingly confirm that he has taken reigns of the next installment, thus making him the first director to revisit the Mission: Impossible series.
Star and producer Tom Cruise has always had a different director for each picture as he’s wanted to create a different tone for each one. Brian DePalma for 1, John Woo for 2, JJ Abrams for 3, and Brad Bird for Ghost Protocol. Earlier this month, Variety had reported that Christopher McQuarrie was being eyed to return to write and possible direct Mission: Impossible 6. With McQuarrie’s tweet on this very last day of November and four months after the release of Rogue Nation, I believe we have our director!
