Variety has reported that actress Brit Morgan (USA’s Graceland and HBO’s True Blood) has just been cast as the DC Comics villain Livewire for CBS’s Supergirl.
Morgan’s Leslie is a confident, abrasive and funny shock-jock who works for CatCo Media, the conglomerate owned by Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). When an accident makes her as dangerous and shocking as her words, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) must stop her.
While we only know that Leslie Willis a.k.a. Livewire will appear in a season one episode of Supergirl, the character write up does sound remarkably like how she was originally conceived in the Superman: The Animated Series episode “Livewire.” She was created by Bruce Timm and later introduced to the DC Comics Universe through Gail Simone and John Byrne’s Action Comics issue 835.
Livewire is an underrated character and after speculation that she might cameo in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, it’s of great personal excitement to hear she will feature prominently in an episode of Supergirl. USA’s Graceland is a terrific show and while actress Brit Morgan appeared briefly near the end of season two, she’s had a more prominent role in season three. She’s a standout among the ensemble cast and will undoubtedly bring the same “confident, abrasive” personality that Lori Petty brought to the role in the 1997 Superman Animated episodes. It is worth noting that actress Anna Mae Routledge appeared as Livewire in an episode of The CW’s Smallville, but the character’s appearance was more of an extended cameo of sorts.
Stay tuned for more information. Supergirl will premiere Monday, October 26 at a special time (8:30-9:30pm) before it moves to its regular time slot on Monday, November 2 from 8:00-9:00pm.
