A few of us from What’cha Reading were able to attend APCC this year and we had a great time. It was held in a small convention center right on the beach in Asbury Park New Jersey. Though the venue wasn’t enormous the energy was, we met so many great writers, artists, fans, crazy people (c’mon you know you were there!). One of my favorite things? No major comic companies. That’s right no Marvel, no DC, hell no Dark Horse. Don’t get me wrong I love the big (what’s it now 3, 4?) whatever but without them what you find is that creators are more open, more relaxed. People are less frenetic. It’s seems to make the show more about comics, less about announcements and press releases. With that in mind we received an email from the organizers of APCC, take a look at what they had to say…
Asbury Park Comicon 2013 Was A Huge Success
Convention Hall Hosts First Major NJ Comic Convention
What a wild ride it’s been building a whole new comic con experience for fans and comic creators. We set out to make a convention we’d like to attend or exhibit at — one that concentrated on comic creators and offered great programming in the form of discussion panels.
Asbury Park Comicon saw some great guests, including MAD Magazine’s Al Jaffee (pictured below) Ren & Stimpy’s Bob Camp (below left), Wolverine co-creator Herb Trimpe, Ramones album cover artist John Holmstrom, Batman producer Michael Uslan, Golden Age artist Alllen Bellman, and many others.
We’d like to thank everyone who exhibited and attended for making the 2013 Asbury Park Comicon such a huge success. And we’ll see you next year for 2 days in 2014 — April 12 &13.
Hooray For Comics,

Well there you have it! Mark your calendars April 12th and 13th. If you on or near the east coast and love comic as much as we do I think you’d really enjoy coming down to the Jersey shore and attending a really fun, interesting, and friendly show. If you do come, keep your eyes open for some of the What’cha Reading, crew we’ll be there!
Hey, here’s a gallery of some of the pics we took whilst strolling the halls…
