Who is Obadiah Archer, and why does everybody want him dead?

Well, as we found out in Archer & Armstrong: Archer #0 (on sale now!), there’s a lot more to our amnesiac assassin then meets the eye. Not only does he have an immortal, super strong bodyguard (that would be Armstrong), Archer has recently taken over control of the Sect. The evil cabal of secret societies that run the world were previously hunting done Valiant’s dynamic duo, hoping to kill Armstrong and regain control of Archer, who rebelled against his adopted parents, the Sect members who trained him to be an assassin. Now revealed for the first time in a Project Rising Spirit mission briefing, the true origin of Obadiah Archer (if you haven’t read Archer & Armstrong: Archer #0 yet, beware! SPOILERS abound!). Obadiah Archer was a gifted child whose high test scores caught the attention of PRS (Project Rising Spirit). They promptly kidnapped him and activated his latent psiot power, a power they were not able to catalog at first.

Archer, known as The Prodigal back then, was seemingly able to spontaneously learn new skills as the situation called or it, such as gymnastics or various martial arts (much like Marvel’s Task Master, but he doesn’t have to see it done, to do it). It wasn’t until a training session with a fellow PRS captive psiot, Pulse (last seen in early issues of Bloodshot), that aa_archer_zero_005Archer’s true power revealed itself. When Pulse suffered an injury from a training robot, an angry Archer was able to copy her psiot power of electrokinesis and destroy the robot. Project Rising Spirit classified his power as “morphogenesis”, which allows him to tap into the morphogenic resonance of the human race, and copy any skill or power in existence. (Basically take Taskmaster add a dash of Rogue, minus their weaknesses and you have Archer!).  Oh and that Mission Briefing I mentioned above….It was from the CEO of Project Rising Spirit, given to Bloodshot and the H.A.R.D.Corps team, because their next mission is to hunt down The Progidal and bring him under the control of PRS.And who better to do that than Bloodshot, the nanite enhanced killing achine, made specifically to kill psiots, and his crack team of enhanced commandos.

Valiant doesn’t play games when it comes to crossovers (Harbinger Wars and Unity we’re universe changing events) and the creative team behind this one is a doozy! Fred Van Lente continues to deliver on Archer & Armstrong, aided and abetted by the talented Pere Perez (these two rocked it in A&A: Archer #0, which is pretty much the zero book for this event) and the regular Bloodshot and the HARDCorps writing duo of Christos Gage and Joshua Dysart will be joined by industry legend Tom Raney, whose artistry skills know no bounds. This is gonna be a big one folks.

Check out the sample pages of Bloodshot and Archer going at it ( below ) and you’ll see what I mean. Plus interlocking covers by Jorge Molina! You can’t go wrong with this one.

P.S. This Blog will self destruct after reading….. you have 30 seconds…29….28

About Author

Trained by the Four-Color wizard, Hagan, in all things comic-booky, young Robert took to the streets of New York, dragging his large bespectacled head from comic shop to comic shop, absorbing, learning… knowing…. Until a very delayed pubescent spurt in his early thirties when the tumescent lump of comic knowledge burst forth, rupturing into nonsensical rants about Jack Kirby, superhero related tattoos, questionable cosplay activities, worshiping Jim Starlin as a prophet, and courting the young lady working in his local comic shop. Now he is just mad…roaming the streets late at night while walking his dog, plotting and preparing to unleash more comic-booky goodness on an unsuspecting world. He likes bread. The food. He thinks the band is crap. *Hey wanna freak Bob out? Come follow him on twitter (@dyrewolf1218), he's totally new to it and suspects it may be black magic...* - Chuck the editor monkey
