In what may be considered breaking news in a day and age that finds fans salivating at any scrap of information, we caught an as of yet unrevealed tidbit on Marvel’s upcoming film, Ant-Man. The Peyton Reed directed film will be presented in IMAX upon its July 2015 release.
While rewatching the “human-sized” version of the teaser for the trailer, spotted near the end underneath the title card was “IMAX is a registered trademark of IMAX corporation. 2015 Marvel.” While Marvel and Disney have presented previous films in IMAX, there has been no official word on Ant-Man being shown on an IMAX screen. It would be highly unlikely that the IMAX name would be attached to a film with no plans on utilizing the format so upon further research, during a press release dated March 20, 2014 “The Walt Disney Company announced an agreement to release several of Disney’s upcoming films in IMAX theatres.” Listed in the press statement were films such as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”; not to mention “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Seemingly slipping under the fan community’s noses was an announcement regarding Ant-Man in IMAX straight from IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster. During an earnings call, the transcript posted at seekingalpha.com and reported on Business Insider, Foster revealed “another Marvel title [Avengers: Age of Ultron] and ‘Ant-Man’ …in one year, that’s unbelievable.”
It would seem highly probable that fans will get to see Ant-Man in IMAX starting July 17, 2015 as it is a Marvel/Disney film. However, without any confirmation, this is to be taken with a grain of salt. Personally, Ant-Man seems a natural fit for the massive scope that is IMAX and I hope we do get to see it in this venue.
Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.
