Amber Heard, Mera in Aquaman?
Reported first by The Hollywood Reporter comes word that Amber Heard is in talks to play Mera in Aquaman. With Warner Bros. issuing a “no comment”, we have every reason to believe we are looking at the next actress to join the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Mera will make her appearance first in Justice League, set for release November 2017, with her first feature length appearance in July 2018. Amber Heard will play Mera, the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis. First appearing in 1963, the character’s powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.
David Leslie Johnson, who is Wan’s writer on The Conjuring 2, is working on one while the other one is being penned by Kurt Johnstad, who wrote 300 with Zack Snyder, who is directing Justice League, producing Aquaman and is one of the architects of the DCEU.
Justice League is due to begin shooting April 2016, swimming towards a Nov. 17, 2017 release date. Aquaman is due to hit the shores on July 27, 2018.
It will be very exciting to see if this deal works out as we previously saw Nicole Kidman attached to Wonder Woman with scheduling conflicts keeping her from a role as of now still unknown but widely speculated to be Queen Hippolyta. Just a few days ago, staff writer Joe gave us his take on Mera as he presented Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra as a possibility. You could read that here. Personally, I would have enjoyed seeing Michelle Rodriquez take on the role, but if Amber Heard is indeed confirmed, I have no problem with that.
But I’m still holding out for Michelle…
Heard is repped by WME and Karl Austen at Jackoway Tyerman.
