A Statement From BKV on Apple banning Saga #12

This man is my freaking hero. Check out how he handles this absurdity.

For immediate release:

As has hopefully been clear from the first page of our first issue, SAGA is a series for the proverbial “mature reader.” Unfortunately, because of two postage stamp-sized images of gay sex, Apple is banning tomorrow’s SAGA #12 from being sold through any iOS apps. This is a drag, especially because our book has featured what I would consider much more graphic imagery in the past, but there you go. Fiona and I could always edit the images in question, but everything we put into the book is there to advance our story, not (just) to shock or titillate, so we’re not changing shit. (continued at Image Comics)

Now for my two cents. I have two small children, one is 7 the other 2. I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out which shows are appropriate, which music I should let into my house, which books teach the lessons I’m trying to get into these kids.

Never once in the 7 years have I ever thought something should be changed, banned, edited, omitted, or otherwise messed with to protect my children. That. Is. My. Job.

Thank you Mr Vaughan and Ms Staples for standing up guy and telling the big corporation to go to blazes. And thank you Image Comics for backing them up.
